Canaan Bog Protected Area

Location: west of Moncton

Size: 20,650 ha

Description:  The Canaan Bog natural area is largely flat, with bogs dominating the area, interspersed with a complex network of streams and forested islands. It contains the greatest amount of significant roadless habitat among all 10 new protected areas. It is known to contain significant populations of moose, and could be a good destination for wildlife watching (birds, beaver colonies, reptiles and amphibians).

Notes:

flat land and poor drainage results in one of the most significant wetland areas in the province
