Jacquet River Gorge Protected Area |

Location: southwest of Bathurst Size: Covers 26,026 hectares (18,429 ha is fully protected now, and forest harvesting in the remaining 7,597 ha will be phased out by the year 2012)
Description: The deep gorge created by
the Jacquet River and its southern branch dominates this wilderness area, a
scenic mix of spruce/fir, pine, hardwood and cedar forests, gulches, streams and
waterfalls. The area has high recreation potential for canoeing along the main
Jacquet River, and for hiking and snowshoeing in the gulches west of Antinouri
Lake. Antinouri Lake is a good place for canoeing and trout fishing. Notes:
