Spednic Lake Protected Area

Location:west of McAdam

Size: 25,887 ha

Description:  This area takes in the extensive system of wetlands, lakes and brooks that feeds Spednic Lake, complementing the existing Spednic Lake Provincial Park. It encompasses part of the St. Croix Heritage River, which is also one of Maine’s Wild and Scenic Rivers. Significant ecological features in the protected area include an old hemlock stand with very large trees, bald eagle nesting sites, and rare plant habitats. There is considerable recreational use of the river and surrounding lands for canoeing, boating, bass fishing, camping, snowmobiling, ATV use and hiking.
